Here I am in Dallas, visiting my brother and his family (okay, okay, I’m here visiting my niece. LOL). I flew in last night, so I could have a little more time with them. The intent was to leave just a little early from work and arrive at a reasonable hour in the evening (9pm CDT). Well, the leaving just a little early from work part was right. But then this lovely unseasonable weather we got (1in of snow) decided to rear it’s head and my flight was delayed out of Grand Rapids. Sigh. Well, that’s why I schedule at least one hour between flights, right? This connection was to be 1 hour 20 minutes. And my flight took off about an hour late. Yeah.
So, I arrive in Detroit at gate A29. Thankfully, my next flight leaves from gate A6 (thankfully because Northwest has three concourses in Detroit; at least I was in the same concourse!) I landed at 6:55pm and my next flight was to pull away from the gate at 7:12pm. So, yes, I ran. I ran on the people movers. I had planned to get dinner in Detroit, but that got nixed. Sigh.
And then my flight got delayed in Detroit due to a hydraulic fitting. Sigh.
But, hey, I figured that gave my baggage time to make the transfer.
The flight to Dallas was mostly uneventful. There was a whiny toddler behind me, but that was mostly obnoxious during the hour gate delay. I did get to see some lightening (I think) as we landed. Quite in the distance, but it was neat seeing the sky exploding.
But we landed and all is well. My brother’s smart enough to check my flight before leaving to pick me up.
I made phone calls all around as soon as I could (and just after both Matt & Dad left me messages).
Then just a simple wait for my bag.
And wait. And wait. And isn’t this my carousel? Nope, no bag at the other one either. Sigh.
Wait at the counter for some help (which, naturally, takes forever). Seems my bag didn’t make to my plane. I suspect they automatically routed it to the next morning’s flight.
But they were efficient and nice enough with me. And they even gave me a toiletry kit complete with t-shirt, toothbrush, brush, razor and even detergent! That was pretty cool.
But at least my bag wasn’t lost. We went and picked it up on our way to lunch with my SIL (it would have been delivered, but we got there first. Lucky timing too; she was just about to look for my bag. If she’d noticed it on the carousel earlier, it already would have been on it’s way! Yay!)
But in Amelia news…she’s a happy baby. Walking (and running!) all over the place. She really likes her “baby” grand piano. Tehehe. I got to feed her breakfast (cheese and then oatmeal later) and even put her down for her morning nap. She was too tired to let me put her down for her afternoon nap. Oh well; that’s okay. In theory, we’ll go for a walk to the park too…but we’ll see.
We visited Kelly for lunch and then walked around with Amelia. She’s just a hit! Everyone think she’s cute (which, of course, she is!) And she’s such a happy baby. Their friend Karen gave Amelia some toys to play with, which she happily chased up and down the cube aisles. LOL. She’s adorable!
I guess we’re going to a steakhouse named “Love and War in Texas” or something. Kinda odd name for a restaurant, but I guess it’s popular. And we’ll hit Fry’s (drool!) and get Chick-Fil-A too (yum!) and hopefully make it to the Aquarium too. And I get to play with Amelia more, which is just the best.
