Posted in blog on December 20th, 2007I have Great Plans for this site. It might even involve fashion.
But I need to do a “reboot.” Maybe for the new year.
Anyway, I wanted to log Tim Gunn’s 10 Basic garments and see if I have any of them and what I need (either make or purchase)
- Basic Black Dress
- <strike>Trench Coat</strike>
- <strike>Classic Dress Pants</strike>
- White Shirt
- <strike>Jeans</strike>
- Cashmere Sweater
- <strike>Skirt</strike>
- <strike>Day Dress</strike>
- <strike>Blazer</strike>
- <strike>Sweat Suit Alternative</strike>
Oh there’s a piece or two they might argue about but for the most part, a little tailoring and I’d have it.
Yes, I need a LBD. I’ve threatened to make one for some time now. I’ve even tried a time or two. Oh well. And a white shirt…oh technically I have a summer shirt but I rarely wear it. I have plans for making a couple of white shirts (one silk, one cotton) in the next couple of months.
Jeans are iffy. I’ve basically got one pair I’m happy with. I’m always on the hunt for another.
I definitely have dresses and skirts. No problem there.
I have a couple of jackets that could count for my trench: my tan leather car coat, my tan raincoat (which is most closely a trench) and my denim duster.
As for my sweat suit alternative…I certainly have one for the summer: my ubiquitous knit slip-dress. I think I have enough options in my closet (that are quite comfy) to be sweat suit alternatives. I could probably work on that one (at least for winter wear). I don’t consider a dress sweat suit alternative in the winter–it requires tights.
And the cashmere sweater? Meh. I don’t need a luxury item. I do have a pashmina shawl so I’ll consider that as my sweater.
Anyway…
