Mixed Feelings
Posted in blog on March 24th, 2006I’m having a strange feeling of trepidation regarding my impending haircut. Not that I have an appointment with anyone yet, but I know the “end is near” for my long locks. For reference, my hair is approximately to the middle of my back; probably the longest it’s been in my entire life!
It’s odd…I’m increasingly becoming annoyed with my hair; I constantly catch it under my bag strap, it’s been closed in doors occasionally, and, more recently, it was getting in the way while dancing(my bf kept catching it under his hand). That’s not to mention the sheer fact of dealing with that length: washing, brushing and attempting to keep it away from one’s face.
Now, the fact that I’ve managed to grow my hair out to this length is impressive. I’m known for getting quite bored with my looks/hair and tend to chop it off at random intervals. I seem to be trending to having short hair for a year or so, get annoyed with the frequency one must get haircuts to maintain such a style, grow it out for a year or more, get annoyed with the hair in general and whack it off. Mind you, I can grow my hair from pixie-short to shoulder-length in under a year. My hair just grows quickly; at least until it reaches my shoulders. It takes another two years to grow that last 8″.
Regardless…I’m still nervous about cutting my hair. I can’t quite pinpoint why. I think, perhaps, it’s because I remember how little you can do with short hair. You’re pretty much stuck to one style with minor variations. Granted, I tend to only wear my hair down, in a ponytail or clipped up in a twist. But I guess it’s the sheer fact that I could do something more interesting.
Maybe I won’t whack it totally short. I have to go a certain shortness as I’m intending on donating my hair to Locks for Love (they require a minimum of 10″). But I may not go much shorter. Chop off the ponytail and layer a bit from there.
Besides, if I went too short I wouldn’t be able to use my new curlers! (My hair is currently too long for them; the curlers won’t close as there’s too much hair there!)
